How to Refill a Torch Lighter

I ordered a Scorch Torch Triple Jet Flame Torch Lighter 61540 and a Torch Lighter 61648 from Unique Smoke Shop. Both lighters arrived completely empty. I was later told that they had supposedly been tested and emptied before shipment, but this was not disclosed to me until I attempted to return them for a replacement or refund.
I filled both lighters with Ronson Butane fuel, using the universal fittings that correctly matched the filling valves. When I attempted to light one of the lighters, flames immediately came out from multiple areas of the lighter instead of only from the intended torch nozzle. This created an extremely dangerous situation. I was fortunate to be able to extinguish the flame without suffering an injury or causing a fire.
I also discovered that both lighters would not tighten properly after filling and continued to leak fuel. A butane leak combined with an ignition source is a serious fire and burn hazard. These were not simply lighters that failed to work properly—they presented a potentially dangerous safety hazard.
I contacted Unique Smoke Shop to request a return, replacement, or refund and provided the photographs they requested. However, Alex apparently determined from the photographs that the lighters were fine and suggested that I must have done something incorrectly. That conclusion does not address the fact that the lighters would not seal properly, leaked fuel, and one produced flames from areas where flames should never have been present.
If the lighters had been opened, tested, and emptied by the seller before shipment, as I was told, that makes it even more important that they should have been properly reassembled and checked to ensure that the fuel system was securely sealed before being shipped.
I am extremely disappointed that Unique Smoke Shop has refused to take responsibility for products that I believe are defective and potentially dangerous. I purchased these products expecting them to be safe and functional, not to have fuel leaking from them or flames coming from unintended locations.
Because of this experience, I will not purchase from Unique Smoke Shop again, and I strongly recommend that other customers carefully consider the potential safety implications before purchasing these lighters.
